Tea House, Cape Cod

A formal tea house brought from Japan and revived after seventy years.

Restoration of a formal Japanese tea house on Cape Cod — shoji windows and doors, fusuma, engawa veranda, mizuya shelves, jurakukabe plaster, and tatami.

Tea House, Cape Cod

At the end of the war, the American ambassador brought a formal tea house from Japan to Cape Cod. Seventy years later it stood like a ruin. We restored it — shoji windows and doors, fusuma, the mizuya shelves, the engawa veranda, jurakukabe plaster, tatami.

Tea house restoration demands patience and traditional knowledge: each element has a role in the composition, and each repair must honor the original craft while surviving a New England climate.
