Design Kyo works where you are: interior shoji fitted to colonial windows in Cambridge, a sunroom saved from winter out past 495 in Harvard, a stone garden inside Brigham and Women's Hospital, restaurants in Boston, a gift store on the harbor side, a tea house restored on Cape Cod.

New England houses are colonials, capes, and standard 2×6 framing — and Japanese design fits inside them without demolition. The house stays itself; the rooms that matter become Japan. Toshio settled in Boston in 1997, and the hybrid of the two building cultures has been his work ever since.
